Artist's Statement

My  ‘Beyond the Gate’ series has been painted En Plein Air (outside) taking in some of Lanyon’s amazing views.  I have endeavoured to capture the space and beauty of the Lanyon site, faraway blue skies, the brilliance of the clouds and the peaceful countryside. Whilst I  painted beneath stately elms, oaks, birches and plane trees birds sang, the sun shone and the Murrumbidgee River flowed. It was the ambience of the site that drew me to wonder what other stories lie beyond the gate. As you peruse my paintings I hope that you might also wonder what might entice you to go…beyond the gate…

Biography

I have  been an art lover all my life and am currently the Secretary of ASOC and a Guide for ACT Historic Places. I have had a long career as a Director, a Vocational Trainer and a University Lecturer and have travelled widely throughout Australia, the British Isles and Europe. Upon retirement, I moved from Sydney to Canberra to be closer to my family and focus on my passion for painting and writing, taking my sketch pad/notebook wherever I go. I enjoy sharing Canberra’s rich heritage with all those who visit ACT Historic Places and believe such places should be preserved and enjoyed by all for future generations.
