Pantry

The pantry doesn't only store food, it is also home to the best domestic technology that money can buy.  These are Mrs Calthorpes’ ‘electric servants’.

Not many homes can boast a Swedish Electrolux vacuum cleaner; it keeps the house spotless.

Keeping food fresh and cool is no challenge with the large ice-box.  Large chunks of ice are delivered straight to the back door.  The big tongs are used to pick the ice up, and put it into the ice box; The Calthorpes have cold milk, even on the hottest summer days.

The mix-master food bowl may have cracked, in an incident Dawn and Del can’t forget, but this machine is really built to last.  The girls remembered their first milkshake made with it forever.

Fresh fruit and vegetables come straight from the garden of course, and are kept here, along with the annual preserves.  Fresh flowers for the Sitting Room and Dining Room are cut and arranged with lovely vases, keeping the house bright and smelling sweet.

Mary never lost track of the groceries and the shopping list, because Mrs Calthorpe just had to flip the arrows of the special ‘grocery reminder’ and she would know what she needed to order.  Mrs Calthorpe manages the domestic budget very carefully;  every receipt is carefully kept, and she can account for every pound, shilling and penny.
